New For 2010

Hydrangeas

At Johnson's, hydrangeas are our favorite blooming shrub. There are many different varieties, some for sun and some for shade. This year there are a few new ones that we are extremely excited about.

Invincibelle Spirit Hydrangea

A plant breeding breakthrough, Invincibelle 'Spirit' is the first ever pink form of 'Annabelle' Hydrangea. As if that was not good enough, it's a rebloomer, producing new flowers right up until frost.

Incrediball Hydrangea

A new and improved 'Annabelle' Hydrangea, Incrediball has beefy stems and massive blooms. The breeding goal was stronger stems to eliminate flop, but we got incredibly large blooms too! Each bloom has roughly 4 times as many flowers as 'Annabelle'!

Hydrangea White Diamonds ™

A wonderful new compact Hydrangea paniculata developed by Dr. Michael Dirr the famed horticulturalist from the University of Georgia. With glistening white panicles and it's smaller stature this is the choice for a smaller garden. Also heat and drought tolerant, it's sure to become the standard to which others are measured against.

Vanilla Strawberry ™

Triple the delight for hydrangea lovers! This hydrangea paniculata's enormous blooms start out a creamy vanilla-white, changing to a soft pink and finally to a ripe strawberry-red. Gorgeous!

Pinky Winky Hydrangea

Showy flowers of white and deep pink are 12 -16" tall. Blooms from mid summer until frost regardless of climate, soil or pruning.

Limelight Hydrangea

This one is not brand new but it's one of our all time favorites! It comes in both a shrub and a tree form. An exciting hardy Hydrangea from Holland, 'Limelight' has unique bright chartreuse blooms in mid-summer that hold bright and refreshing color right into autumn when the blooms change color to a rich deep pink. The autumn display of chartreuse and pink blooms on the same plant is breathtaking! The color makes a great addition to the garden and it blends wonderfully with all other colors. Use 'Limelight', either fresh or dried, in bouquets to make a unique floral design. This is an easy to grow plant with reliable flowering and flower color regardless of soil pH. The flower heads are of good size, ranging from 6 to 12 inches and are held upright on the shrub. The blooms are well distributed making a very nice plant and display.
