Johnson’s Farm – A Family Tradition
Proud To Be A Family Farm! Quality Produce, Quality Service Since 1940!
Northwest Indiana's Trusted Garden Center & Farm Market
Johnson’s Farm Produce has been selling some of the freshest home grown fruits and vegetables available in Northwest Indiana since 1940. It was back then that Ethel Johnson nailed a sign up on the old oak tree, selling the extra tomatoes and vegetables she had available from the family garden. Ethel, her husband Clark, and their son Rod saw the little business grow. Soon the the old barn was converted to use as the farm market.
A lot of things have changed since then. Today, Johnson’s Farm Produce is one of the largest owned and operated garden centers and farm stand in the state of Indiana. Unlike most of our competitors, we still grow almost everything we sell. That means that when you buy from us, your fruits and vegetables were allowed to fully ripened on the vine. They were picked at the very peak of their flavor and nutritional value. No wonder so many folks from the greater Chicago area drive out to our farm for good produce!
The old barn is still standing, but a larger farm market building was erected in 1960. The extensive greenhouse added in the early 90’s helps us control the quality of all our products—flowers, plants, vegetables and berries. Today, we offer a full service lawn and garden center, in addition to the greenhouse and farm market.
We are proud to say that this is still a family farm. It is now run by Clark and Ethel’s son and daughter, Rodney Johnson Sr, and his wife Virginia, and their son and daughter, Rodney Jr. and Jennifer, along with Jennifer’s husband Steve.
Rodney Johnson Jr, is now the head farmer and “the strawberry man.” Jennifer is the general manager and bookkeeper. Jennifer’s husband, “Strawberry Steve” is the manager of the farm’s location in Valparaiso, on Highway 30. Rodney Jr’s middle daughter, Lyndsay, is the store manager.
Grandkids Lauren, Lacey, Maxx, Daisy work in various positions. Virginia still does bookkeeping and works in the greenhouse.
For nearly three-quarters of a century, our family has grown fresh vegetables, strawberries, plants and flowers with tender loving care. We love knowing that what we grow isn’t shipped across the country, but bought and enjoyed by our own neighbors and friends. Stop by and see the family! Let us show you how our family tradition provides you with personal service, top quality products, and the best produce you’ve ever eaten
